Cardiac Training Center
In today's Training Tuesday post, we get to take a look into the Cardiac Training Center on the UA Hope campus.
The University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana is proud to be a part of the American Heart Association’s network of Cardiac Training Centers. Millions of healthcare providers, industry leaders, community groups and individuals turn to the AHA for their lifesaving CPR, First Aid and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) training.
According to data from 2015, more than 350,000 cardiac arrests happen outside of a medical facility each year. Imagine what you could do if you are properly trained to encounter one of these situations! Of those 350,000 instances, more than 45% of these victims survived due to a bystander administering CPR while waiting for emergency medical services.
Stats from the AHA website:
Among 2,000 employees in corporate offices, hospitality, education and industry/labor:
- 55 percent can’t get first aid or CPR and AED training from their employer.
- If training is available, it’s often either CPR or first aid, not both.
- Half of all US workers cannot locate an AED at work.
- In the hospitality industry, 66 percent of employees cannot locate an AED.
From teaching hands-only CPR to groups of individuals to individualized training classes for our biggest industries in southwest Arkansas, Chassidy Wyrick-Collins, our CTC Administrator, is here to keep our area up-to-date with training and AHA requirements. Many of our industry partners require CPR and first aid training for their employees. It’s great to have someone at your company trained in CPR because nearly 10,000 cardiac arrests occur at a workplace every year. UAHT is happy to help set up specialized classes on our campus for companies in our area, or help to provide on on-site training at the company’s location so that you can be prepared.
In addition to teaching and coordinating CPR classes, there are over 170 instructors in our CTC network and Chassidy serves them all by processing all payments and card requests from each completed classes.
